Tips&Tricks: How to become a professional translator or interpreter
Like any other profession it requires time, knowledge, experience and practise, of course. There's no other path to success. Everyone involved in the sphere of English should have watched the video about multiple translator - and I personally recommend you to do it if you haven't done it yet!
The given example is fun but it's about how professionals would never behave. Here are my tips&tricks on how to become a professional in the sphere of translation and interpreting: • Get certified. Get tested. Gain experience and practise, practise, practise! Ask friends, get translations online, download texts from the Internet and translate them using effective resources to help you. These are initial steps which may lead you to success.
• Use up-to-date translation terms. There is no reason to include 19th century definitions to the text of the year 2017. Let's avoid having awkward situations and be understood instead :) Personal experience: useful links and resources http://www.multitran.ru http://dictionary.cambridge.org http://sdl-trados.com.ua/free-trial-request http://www.promt.com/ http://www.systran.co.uk/ http://www.translution.com/
• False friends of a translator. Spanish/Ukrainian/Russian and other friends are aware of the problem, so let's try to avoid associating "actually" with "currently", "cabinet" with "office", "chef" and "boss", "intelligent" and "well-mannered".
The list is endless, that's why there's a necessity to get to know synonyms, antonyms, etc. Personal experience: useful links and resources https://onlineteachersuk.com/en/russian-mistakes-in-english-false-friends/
